Storm Damage Is Not Always Obvious
According to Colorado DHSEM, roof-damaging hail mostly hits between mid-April and mid-September, and Colorado is second in the nation for hail claims. Cracked shingle mats, lost granules and dented flashing are hard to spot from the driveway. A roof that looks fine may be fine, but a close look beats a guess either way.
The south metro has seen big storms. On June 22, 2023, the Storm Prediction Center logged 1.25-inch hail 1 mile southwest of Parker and near The Pinery. That same afternoon, NWS Boulder confirmed an EF1 tornado from Highlands Ranch to Lone Tree, with hail up to tennis-ball size. The September 29, 2014 south-metro hailstorm caused $213.3 million in insured damage, Colorado's 8th costliest at the time (RMIIA).

What Gets Done
How Storm & Hail Damage Roof Replacement Is Priced
A storm-damaged roof costs about the same to replace as any other roof of its size. What changes is who pays: your policy, its terms and your deductible decide what the insurer covers. These published figures give you a baseline.
| Cost row | Figure | Source (year) |
|---|---|---|
| Colorado roof replacement, statewide average | $9,534 on average; most jobs $7,332 to $23,862 | This Old House (2026) |
| Parker shingle roof, installed | $5 to $7 per sq ft | Homeyou (2026) |
| FORTIFIED-style hail upgrade on a 2,000 sq ft house | $3,000 to $5,000 on top | Colorado Insurance Commissioner, reported by The Colorado Sun (2026) |
If the roof is coming off anyway, price impact-resistant shingles too. They're optional around Parker, never required.
What to Expect
- After the storm passes, note the date and take photos from the ground. Stay off the roof.
- Request an inspection, and we connect you with one local roofer.
- The roofer inspects, documents the damage and tells you plainly whether it looks claim-worthy.
- You decide whether to file, and you contact your insurer yourself.
- The insurer sends an adjuster. Under a signed contract, your roofer can discuss the repair scope with them.
- With the scope agreed, you sign the contract, the permit is pulled and the work is scheduled.

Why Start Your Request Here
After a big hailstorm, out-of-town crews often knock on doors. Starting here sends your request to a local roofer who is registered with the Town or, outside town limits, with Douglas County. We're a referral service: we don't do roofing work or speak to your insurer for you.
Filing a Roof Claim
The roofer inspects, documents and prices the damage. You and your insurance company settle the claim between you. Colorado law bars roofers from acting as your public adjuster, though under a valid contract they can talk with the insurer about the repair scope. If you want someone to argue the claim for you, that's a public adjuster you hire separately.
Before work starts on an insurance-paid roof, Colorado requires a signed written contract. It lists the scope and materials, approximate dates, approximate cost based on known damage, the roofer's contact details, surety and liability insurer, and the cancellation and refund policy. It must also state that the roofer can't pay, waive or rebate your deductible. Any money you pay sits in trust until the materials get there or most of the work wraps up.
The deductible rule is firm. A roofer may not advertise or promise to cover any part of it, because that's against Colorado law. If the insurer then rejects part or all of the roofing claim in writing, you can cancel the contract, also in writing, within 72 hours of that notice. The roofer then has 10 days to return your payments, minus pay for any work already done.

Before You Book
Should I file a claim after every hailstorm?
Not automatically. Have the roof inspected first. If the repair would cost less than your deductible, a claim may not be worth filing. The roofer's written findings and photos help you weigh it, but the decision belongs to you, not the roofer.
Does hail always mean I need a new roof?
No. Small hail may leave only cosmetic marks, and some storms hit just a few slopes or the gutters. A careful inspection sorts real damage from normal wear and tear, and in many cases a targeted repair is all the roof needs.
What if my claim is denied after I sign?
Colorado gives you 72 hours from the insurer's written denial, whole or partial, to cancel the roofing contract. Send your notice in writing. The roofer must refund your payments within 10 days but can keep what's owed for work already done.
Is there a state grant for a stronger roof?
Not yet. Colorado's Strengthen Colorado Homes program, signed into law on June 4, 2026, is still being set up by the Division of Insurance. Grants aren't expected before 2027, and no amount has been set, so there's nothing to apply for today.
